Mohammed sets up Government of Dubai Media Office

10 January 2009

In his capacity as the Ruler of Dubai, UAE Vice President and Prime Minister His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum has issued Law No. 2 of 2010, establishing the Government of Dubai Media Office, as part of ongoing efforts to strengthen the channels of communication in the emirate.

In addition to improving coordination between local media organisations, the office will be tasked with effectively conveying an accurate picture of events in Dubai, with full transparency and objectivity, in accordance with best international standards and practices.

Bringing the Dubai Press Club, Falcon & Associates and the Dubai Office for Media Affairs (Brand Dubai) together under one umbrella, the new bureau will serve as a focal point for local, regional and international media organisations to source accurate information on the Ruler and Government of Dubai.

Sheikh Mohammed also issued a decree appointing Media Escort to Sheikh Mohammed, Ahmed Abdullah Al Sheikh, as Managing Director of the new office, which will be attached to Dubai Ruler's Court.

Both the law and the decree are effective from their date of issuance and will be published in the official gazette.

The new legislation outlines the functions and responsibilities of the new media office, which extend to arranging interviews and briefings given by the Ruler and Crown Prince of Dubai, in addition to overseeing and organising government press conferences.

The office will also monitor stories published and broadcast in the local and international media. Items of interest will be summarised, archived and subjected to rigorous analysis, prior to being compiled into specialised reports and submitted to the Ruler's Office.
