19 January 2010
H. H. Sheikh Saud bin Rashid Al Mu'alla, Supreme Council member and Ruler of Umm al-Qaiwain, has granted two plots of land to the Ministry of Social Affairs for building a centre for rehabilitation and welfare of the disabled, and a shelter for orphans and children of unknown parents.
Sheikh Saud announced his gesture during an audience today with H.E. Mariam Mohammed Khalfan Al Roumi, Minister of Social Affairs, who updated him on her ministry's programmes and services to various segments of the communityespecially the most vulnerable groups.
The move demonstrates Sheikh Rashid's care for delivering social services to the disabled after he was briefed on a social ministry survey which put the number of handicapped children in the emirate at 130.
