It is illegal to talk workers into decreasing their salaries: MoL
26 April 2010
The Ministry of Labour has confirmed that any violation for articles of the labour law will incite penalties ranging from suspension of license, fine and referral to the public prosecution.
This was revealed during the open day organised today by the ministry and moderated by Humaid bin Daimas, acting Director general of the ministry.
The issue was raised by an Asian worker who said that she was given two options by her employers; to end her services, or to cut her salary from AED 2,500 to AED 1500.
"The ministry will check the salary system for that company without disclosing the identity of the complainant. Once asked to accept a decrease in the salary, the employee has the right to move to another oragnisation. The ministry will issue her a temporary work permit to look for another job and will also ensure that she gets her benefits in full from the previous employers," said bin Daimas.
"The practice of talking workers into accepting a decrease in salaries is considered a violation that is punishable by law," he added
