Mohammed issues decision on endowments
23 May 2010
UAE Vice President, Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum has issued a decision governing the administration of Awqaf (endowments) and associated expenditures in the UAE.
The move reflects the country's desire to organise the endowment sector within an appropriate legal framework, while utilising suitable mechanisms to administer and invest all monies for the benefit of UAE society.
As per the decision, the General Authority for Islamic Affairs and Endowments will determine where and how all funds are spent, with the body also assuming full responsibility for oversight and ensuring that the endowment process is legally compliant.
