20 June 2010
UAE Vice President, Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum has approved a law regulating human resources at federal government agencies, as part of efforts to establish clear standards and practices to be applied to all employees working within the federal government.
Affecting over 80,000 staff at various federal departments, the new law seeks to bring about more effective management of government human resources, while ensuring that an appropriate working environment prevails at government entities.
As well as defining employees' rights and obligations, the legislation also includes provisions governing recruitment procedures, performance appraisal systems and incentive schemes. Under the new rules, ministries and federal bodies will assume greater authority in the areas of recruitment and awarding promotions and bonuses, to provide a fairer working environment where staff may be motivated accordingly.
The law, which also sets out procedures to determine holidays and working hours, will be published in the official gazette.
