Nahyan approves admitted students into universities, scholarship programme

Sheikh Nahyan Bin Mubarak Al Nahyan, Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research has approved the admissions of 13775 male and female students into 3 universities and the government-sponsored overseas scholarship programme.

Of these, 3364 students were admitted into UAE University, 8024 into the Higher Colleges of Technology (HCT), 1977 into Zayed University and 400 into the scholarships programme 10 of them are students with special needs.

The names of admitted students were announced by the ministry on its website and in text messages to the students.

He noted that the coming academic year will see the launch of new initiatives including academic programs for high school graduates who plan to join the UAE Univeristy and colleges. The programs will be held at HCT for the Western Region, Fujairah and Sharjah, he explained.

The minimum score required for admission into the scholarship programme is set at 89% and majors will be specified in accordance with the to the requirements of the labour market and the government's strategy for empowerment, according to Sheikh Nahyan.

Present at the approval ceremony at Sheikh Nahyan's palace were Sheikh Mohammed Bin Nahyan Al-Nahyan, Dr Saeed Al-Hassani, Director General of the Ministry, Dr. Sulaiman Al Jassim Vice President of Zayed University, Dr Tayeb Kamali, the Vice Chancellor of the HCT, Dr. Wyatt R. Hume. Provost of the UAE University, Abu Dhabi University, Zayed University and other higher education officials.

Sheikh Nahyan expressed gratitude to President His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan for his support to the UAE higher education and the progress being made by the country.

"This support further urges us to achieve all the goals. We are inspired by the directives given by His Highness to drive the UAE universities and colleges to play leading roles in the process of overall development," he said.

Sheikh Nahyan also expressed thanks for Vice President and Prime Minister of UAE and Ruler of Dubai His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al-Maktoum and H.H General Sheikh Mohammed Bin Zayed Al-Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces for their support to education and their interest in empowering male and female emaratis to obtain high qualifications to contribute to the country's development and growth.
